Communication: Connecting In Today's Workplace

Communication is a critical component in building workplace relationships. Communication is more than words...it's the way we convey our messages. The medium is the message. In this class we take the time to look our own communication styles as well as the styles of those around us. We will discuss the power of words in conversation. Class discussion will also focus on the unconscious and conscious cues we send to others. At the end of the class each participant will create a personal action plan to enhance her/his communication skills.

Developing Productive Teams

Organizations facing increased demands and competition need their employees to work effectively as teams. Managers and supervisors need the leadership skills necessary to generate improvements in productivity and work processes, as well as to enhance relationships among groups of people who work together. During this workshop, you will practice and develop skills as a facilitator / leader to move your team to higher levels of productivity. Emphasis will be on opportunities to learn:

  • Facilitate a group in conflict, focusing on resolvable issue.

Grant Writing

Writing successful grants is not mysterious or impossible. This seminar takes the mystery out of the process by covering the basics of successful grant writing. Topics include matching the funding source to your program, targeting your response to the priorities in the grant, organizing your material and writing clearly and persuasively. We will analyze samples of what works, how to make it work, and pitfalls to avoid.

After a brief review of the structure of a grant, participants will break in small, working groups to complete one part a grant. Each group will present on that part of the grant, followed by a group discussion. Attendance at a Grant Writing I Workshop is a prerequisite.

This two-part, same day workshop will provide you with the basics of searching for, planning for and writing responses to grants offered by the Federal and State agencies, foundations and local organizations. After a half-hour break, we will reconvene and review a grant application and a response to that application.

Face it, negotiation is a fact of life whether it's quibbling over what movie to go to or deciding a conflict in an out of court settlement. We all negotiate something every day. It is the basic means of getting what you want from others. In this workshop you will learn to:

  • Do your homework, the more information the better to support your position.
  • Walk away when the time is right (generate a variety of possibilities and know your best alternative if negotiations fail).
  • Negotiate the actual concerns and not your positions (separate the people from the problem).
  • Embrace conflict in a way that suits you.
  • Pick your battles to win the war (win-win; win-lose; lose-lose; lose-win).
  • Know your goals before you start and where you stand during the negotiation.

Typically, the first impression of your company is made by telephone. One way your customers evaluate your product or service is by the way their telephone call is handled. The individual who answers your telephone IS your company, and that first impression has a far-reaching effect, creating either a favorable or unfavorable impression. This workshop is designed to give customer service representatives a warm, professional telephone style, and will demonstrate how the angry caller can become your most loyal customer.

The Effective Manager provides new and experienced managers with information and techniques to inspire workers. Working With Difference

We live and work in a diverse world. Every day we encounter people with different backgrounds, skills and ideas. That diversity can enrichen the quality of our lives. But it can at times seem confusing and threatening. How do we get through the confusion and broaden our comfort level with people who do not look, or sound or think like us? It's a challenge that can become our greatest adventure. This class doesn't offer an immediate panacea. But it does provide participants with an opportunity to explore their attitudes about differences, broaden their definitions of diversity and develop strategies to increase their level of comfort with those they work/interact with on a daily basis.
