Will the training cost me anything? I have just been laid off, am I eligible for unemployment benefits? How do I file a claim? I'm interested in obtaining my GED and some Adult Basic Education (ABE) classes. Do you know of any providers who can help me? I am also interested in some English as-a-Second (ESL) Language classes? I'm a veteran. Are there any special services for me? As an employer, what services can I receive from Career Source? Who is Career Source and what do you do?Career Source is a member of the Massachusetts One-Stop Career Center system. We provide workforce development services to anyone interested in using our services. Career workshops, resume preparation, career training eligibility assessment and computer tutorials are just a few of the services we provide. We offer a menu of services to anyone looking for a job, changing jobs, or trying to upgrade their skill sets. What resources are available to me?Career Source has available a monthly schedule of career workshops, employer forums, job fairs, individual counseling, and other career-related services. We have an Internet-ready computer lab for job searches and tutorials, resource library, copiers, printers, fax machine, a phone bank for local employment calls, unemployment insurance representation, school-to-career services, veterans services, and much more. Are there fees for using your services? Most of our services are free to the public. However, some of our more enhanced services like one-on-one consultation and computer training seminars come with a fee. There is also typically a small fee for use of supplies, photocopies, and diskettes. See our printed calendars at our locations or click the "job seeker enhanced services" button for more details. Am I eligible for re-training dollars?Career Source administers a variety of different entitlement contracts for recently laid-off workers and low-income individuals. We assess thousands of people a year to determine whether or not they are eligible for training. While you may be determined eligible, it does not mean that you will receive training funds. Training funds are usually limited and reserved for the most in need. Of the thousands of individuals who are interested and eligible, we usually can help about 200. The determination process requires an orientation, testing, assessment, and a career development plan. We hold orientations frequently, so sign up if you are interested. Will the training cost me anything? If you are approved for funding and placed into training in one of our programs, there still may be a cost to you. We are limited as to the amount of money we can pay towards a training program. If the cost of the training program exceeds what we can provide, you are responsible for working out the remaining payment with the training provider. For example, if the cost of the training program is $6,000.00 and we are limited to funding $4,000.00, you will be responsible for payment of the remaining $2,000.00. I have just been laid off, am I eligible for unemployment benefits? How do I file a claim?
